New voluntary cooperation agreement under Action C5 to advance the circular economy in the agri-food sector
LIFE-IP CEI-Greece, coordinated by the Ministry of Environment and Energy, and Mills of Crete S.A. have formed a new voluntary alliance to promote the valorisation of agri-food waste. The cooperation agreement falls under Action C5 of the project, which promotes collaboration among stakeholders at local and regional level for the management and valorisation of waste from the agri-food sector.
The participation of Mills of Crete in the alliance brings valuable experience in the valorisation of different waste streams and by-products from the agri-food sector. The company already implements circular economy practices, including the valorisation of by-products from olive oil production and citrus juice processing, which are used to produce biofuels and animal feed ingredients. This experience, which connects different segments of the agri-food value chain, can make a significant contribution to exploring new opportunities for the valorisation of agri-food waste and residual streams within the framework of the voluntary alliance.
Through Action C5, LIFE-IP CEI-Greece aims to bring together producers and other relevant stakeholders to identify synergies and practical circular economy solutions for the agri-food sector. Within the framework of the new cooperation agreement, opportunities will be explored for the further valorisation of relevant waste and by-product streams, the exchange of knowledge and experience, and the development of synergies that can contribute to waste reduction and retaining the value of resources within the economy.
The LIFE-IP CEI-Greece project – “Circular Economy Implementation in Greece” (LIFE18 IPE/GR/000013) is co-funded by the European Union’s LIFE Programme and the Green Fund.
