A1 Baseline assessments and inception studies at national scale & stakeholder mapping:

The first preparatory action aims to set the baseline for the smooth implementation of all the following project actions. This goal will be achieved through: a) The development of a baseline assessment of all (different) waste streams management, b) The identification of key stakeholders, and the assessment of their training in circular economy topics, in order to successfully implement the design of capacity building actions (Action C7), c) A review of existing economic and funding tools for circular economy, at EU level and an inception study for the full-scale assessment of pay-as-you-throw schemes, and d) An explicit review of available standards and technical specifications of secondary materials. The last 2 actions are preparatory for the implementation of Action C6.

A2 Preparatory Technical & Economic Studies for Circular Economy demonstration projects:

In the 2nd preparatory action, all necessary technical and economic studies will be implemented for the construction and operation of three Enhanced Green Centres, one in the Municipality of Thessaloniki and two in the Municipality of Athens (Action C1), as well as for the installation of an Integrated Waste Management system in four insular and one mountainous areas (i.e. islands of Paros & Antiparos, island of Thira, island of Tinos, island of Alonissos, Municipality of Nafpaktia), as described in Action C2. Furthermore, the implementation of Action A2 will ensure that all permissions and licenses for the demonstration projects will be prepared on time. In parallel, a preparatory study for the development of networks of integrated management of hazardous household waste (HHW) in W. Macedonia and the Municipality of Athens will be completed, in order to implement Action C3.

A3 Inception study and assessment of potential for implementing Circular Economy in key sectors:

This action aims to the development of an integrated plan for the adaptation and implementation of the forthcoming EU waste legislation obligations of Greece, which dictate targeted initiatives and measures for specific ”new” waste streams. Moreover, data regarding agro and postharvest food waste, single-use plastic (SUP) commodities, plastics for agricultural use, waste PVC, and household hazardous waste, will be collected, while good practices for their prevention, reuse and recycling, will be mapped. The outputs of Action A3 will comprise an information and data base for the implementation of Actions C.
