On October 8–9, 2025, representatives of the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) of the European Union will carry out an on-site visit to Antiparos, as part of the monitor process of the LIFE-IP CEI-GREECE “Implementation of Circular Economy in Greece” project.
The project, which constitutes a flagship national initiative for the implementation of the Circular Economy in Greece, is being implemented with the participation of 20 partners, including public authorities, municipalities, universities, research institutions, and market stakeholders, under the coordination of the Hellenic Ministry of Environment and Energy. It promotes a new approach in the field of waste management, based on the principles of the circular economy: adopting practices and behavioral changes that extend product life cycles, transform waste into resources, and ensure the effective implementation of the EU waste legislative package.
The selection of Paros and Antiparos for the monitor is not coincidental. Antiparos, in particular, has achieved significant results, with pioneering actions in source separation, plastic reduction, and the active involvement of the local community and businesses in circular economy activities. The island’s experience has emerged as a good practice example of circular economy implementation in a small island municipality, with clear potential for replication in other regions of Greece.
The visit of the European Delegation takes place within the project’s implementation in insular areas, coordinated by the Sustainable Islands Network (DAFNI), and marks an important milestone for the project. It is also an opportunity to showcase the good practices being applied in Greece, reinforcing the message that the Circular Economy is not merely an environmental obligation but a strategic choice that creates value for local communities, the economy, and the environment.
On October 8, from 09:30–10:00, representatives of the European Delegation — Mr. Aurelio Politano, Programme Coordination Manager at CINEA, and Ms. Sophia Papageorgiou, TMO of the External Monitoring Team (ELMEN EEIG) — will meet with the Mayor of Antiparos, Mr. Anastasios Faroupos, at the Citizens’ Service Centre in Antiparos Town. On October 9, from 08:00–08:30, they will meet with the Mayor of Paros, Mr. Konstantinos N. Bizas, at the island’s Town Hall.
