A new bilateral agreement aimed at strengthening the circular economy and the sustainable utilization of bio-waste is being launched within the framework of the LIFE-IP CEI Greece project, coordinated by the Ministry of Environment and Energy, through its collaboration with the Hellenic Biomass Association (HELLABIOM).
This new initiative forms part of the project’s strategy to develop voluntary partnerships that promote the circular management of waste and residues from the agri-food sector, transforming them into valuable resources with both environmental and economic benefits.
Biomass and organic residues originating from agriculture, livestock farming, the food industry and other productive activities constitute a key pillar of the circular bioeconomy, as they can be utilized for the production of energy, biofuels, soil improvers, biofertilizers and other value-added products. At the same time, their utilization contributes significantly to waste reduction, the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions and the advancement of the energy transition.
Through the collaboration between LIFE-IP CEI Greece and HELLABIOM, efforts will focus on the exchange of know-how and best practices, the strengthening of networking among stakeholders, businesses and local authorities, as well as the exploration and promotion of innovative solutions for the utilization of biomass and organic residues based on the principles of the circular economy.
Particular emphasis will be placed on highlighting biomass as a development tool for regional growth and Greek production, as well as a key component of the green transition, through initiatives that promote the sustainable use of natural resources and create new value chains and business opportunities.
This bilateral agreement further supports the broader objective of the LIFE-IP CEI Greece project to accelerate Greece’s transition towards a more resilient and circular production model, where waste is regarded as a valuable resource rather than material destined for disposal.
The LIFE-IP CEI Greece project is co-funded by the European Union’s LIFE Programme and the Green Fund.
