The voluntary agreement between LIFE-IP CEI-Greece and the Technical University of Crete, within the framework of the CSSBoost project, strengthens knowledge exchange and the exploration of circular economy solutions in Crete.
LIFE-IP CEI-Greece, coordinated by the Ministry of Environment and Energy, has signed a voluntary cooperation agreement with the Technical University of Crete, within the framework of the CSSBoost project, for the valorisation of agri-food waste in Crete.
The agreement forms part of Action C5 of LIFE-IP CEI-Greece, which aims to develop local and regional alliances, bringing together stakeholders with diverse knowledge, experience and roles in managing waste from the agri-food sector.
This new alliance establishes a framework for exchanging knowledge and data, with the aim of exploring solutions that address Crete’s specific needs and characteristics. The Technical University of Crete will contribute its scientific and research expertise, participating in dialogue among the stakeholders involved and in developing proposals for the sound and innovative management and valorisation of agri-food waste. It will also help disseminate the knowledge and results of the cooperation to interested stakeholders.
For its part, LIFE-IP CEI-Greece will facilitate the exchange of expertise among stakeholders and develop a waste management plan based on waste types and quantities, their seasonality and geographical distribution. Potential funding sources that could support the further development and implementation of the proposed solutions will also be explored.
Through Action C5, LIFE-IP CEI-Greece seeks to bring together stakeholders with knowledge and experience so that agri-food residues can be used as resources for new, sustainable local value chains. The alliance with the Technical University of Crete strengthens this effort by adding the scientific and research dimension needed to move from identifying needs to exploring feasible circular economy solutions for Crete.
The LIFE-IP CEI-Greece project — “Circular Economy Implementation in Greece” (LIFE18 IPE/GR/000013) — is coordinated by the Ministry of Environment and Energy and co-funded by the European Union’s LIFE Programme and the Green Fund.
