Online workshop on 15 October on national circular economy indicators

Greece will take an important step towards systematically tracking its transition to a circular economy on 15 October, with the online thematic workshop “National Circular Economy Observatory: Monitoring National Circular Economy Indicators”. The workshop is organized by the Natural Environment and Climate Change Agency (NECCA) as a beneficiary of LIFE-IP CEI-Greece, “Circular Economy Implementation in Greece”, a project coordinated by the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MEEN).

The workshop will introduce the National Circular Economy Observatory, a policy tool designed to systematically monitor, assess and support the transition to circular economy.

The Observatory collects and analyses data on resource use and efficiency, waste generation and management, the use of secondary raw materials, innovation and competitiveness, as well as energy, climate and water. By analyzing this data, it tracks Greece’s progress towards a circular economy and identifies the challenges and trends shaping this transition.

The workshop is intended for public administration bodies, members of the academic, scientific and research communities, and economic, social and business stakeholders involved in advancing the circular economy.

By presenting the Observatory’s structure, functions and content, the workshop aims to address three key questions:

  • How can we tell whether the transition to a circular economy is progressing, and at what pace?
  • How can progress be measured using objective, comparable data?
  • How can this data be used?

Participation is free of charge. Advance registration is required: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Z9ROM6vFAhMz_R2T5LawGPOCatXZwXe6iI7X5bC0L44/viewform?edit_requested=true

Developing national indicators to track Greece’s progress towards a circular economy is one of the main objectives of the National Circular Economy Strategy adopted in December 2018. The strategy’s operational action plan sets out two specific actions: developing national indicators (Action 1.8) and establishing a circular economy observatory (Action 4.3) to continuously assess progress in implementing the strategy.
