4th Forum on Food Waste Prevention: “From Farm to Fork”
Mytilene, University of the Aegean – Department of Geography
How much food is wasted every day for no reason? How can we reduce waste and make the most of every available resource? With these questions at its core, Mytilene will host the 4th Forum on Food Waste Prevention on Friday, July 4th, from 11:00 to 14:00, an open event dedicated to the future of food, agriculture, and the environment.
The event is part of the European project LIFE-IP CEI-GREECE – “Implementation of Circular Economy in Greece” (LIFE18 IPE/GR/000013), coordinated by the Ministry of Environment and Energy and co-funded by the EU LIFE Programme and the Green Fund.
The 4th Forum on Food Waste Prevention: “From Farm to Fork”, organized by Harokopio University with the support of the Mediterranean Institute for Nature and Anthropos (MedINA) and coordinated by the Ministry of Environment and Energy, addresses professionals from the agro-food sector, representatives of institutions, hospitality and tourism entrepreneurs, students, and all citizens interested in reducing food waste and promoting a sustainable and resilient production and consumption system.
The Forums aim to strengthen dialogue and collaboration across all stages of the food supply chain through best practices, innovative examples, and policy tools. This year’s meeting focuses specifically on the islands of the North Aegean, highlighting critical aspects related to the resilience and sustainable development of the agro-food sector. Special attention is given to food service providers, hotels, and agricultural cooperatives.
It is worth noting that the European Union has set binding targets: a 10% reduction in food waste in processing and manufacturing and a 30% reduction in retail, food services, and households. The Forum in Mytilene is a step toward achieving these goals.
Participation in the 4th Forum is free and open to the public. The event will be held in a hybrid format, with both in-person and online attendance options.
